The Charis-Somatic Leader

Character, personality and presence are the core qualities of effective leaders but for a team to truly follow a leader they must first, want to adopt aspects of the leader’s behaviour. If the leader is charismatic the ‘want’ is heightened and when push comes to shove, people will only do effectively what they genuinely ‘want’ to do.

Exceptional leaders inspire followers by eliciting the desire in others to emulate them.

The classic phrase 'leading by example' is often quoted but continually underestimated and underused as a principle. To lead by example, the leader’s behavior must be authentic, their attitude open and their style communicative, but most importantly they must communicate with their team on a profound level. Modern leadership is less about directing, commanding and instructing and more about connecting, listening and informing.

In business today, individuals need to feel valued for their unique contribution to a team project. People are increasingly unhappy with working in staid, hierarchical organizations – they want open structures and leaders who are prepared to take risks. Therefore today’s effective leaders are also team players, leading from within and leading from the heart. Guiding a team towards a collective vision and specific goals requires a high level of personal energy, both mental and physical. However if the leader is blocked ‘energetically’ there will be no tangible connection with the team as their behavior will inhibit the message and the vision will be dull In a word: uncharismatic.

The effective leader must be able to build a team, brief them, coach them, inspire them, motivate them, influence them, and negotiate with them. In order to do this the leader’s communication style has to be engaging, captivating, and irresistible. This is where one of the most powerful aspects of Charismalab’s philosophy of transformation begins working with psychological archetypes.

Communicating and connecting using archetypal patterns can be an extremely potent tool of leadership. Communication becomes infinitely more authentic and coherent by appealing to a broader range of personalities that exists both in the team and within the psyches of the team members.

The psychological archetypes of personality that Charismalab has identified speak to us of action, knowledge, power. transformation and beauty. They appeal to our deepest emotions and quickly access our hot buttons. The archetypes are present in the individual psyches of team members and therefore must also be active in the leader before she/he can manage and execute the level of communication required for leadership excellence.

Charismalab offers a course that addresses the issue of exceptional leadership. The process begins by guiding delegates towards discovering and connecting with their personal archetypes. Once the integration of the archetypal personalities begins there is a release of mental energy that facilitates a clarity of thinking and a new awareness of the self and others. The next stage is the definition, embodiment and expression of a combination of archetypes that transforms behavior and raises personal presence to a charismatic level.
